Military times are written as four digits with no colon, and read as "hundred hours" on the hour: 1900 is "nineteen hundred hours".
How it works
Military time is the 24-hour clock. The day starts at 0000 (midnight) and ends at 2359 (11:59 PM). For any time before 1:00 PM, military and standard times look the same apart from the leading zero: 0700 is 7:00 AM. From 1:00 PM onward, subtract 12 to get the standard time: 1900 minus 12 is 7, so 1900 is 7:00 PM.
To go the other way, add 12 to any PM hour (except 12 PM, which stays 1200), and write 12 AM, midnight, as 0000. The converter accepts either format, so you can type 1730, 17:30 or 5:30 PM.
